To program a BMW garage door opener, follow these steps from Garage Door Repair:

First, I locate the buttons on the rearview mirror of my BMW that are designated for programming the garage door opener. Usually, there are three buttons located at the bottom of the mirror.

I sit inside the BMW and close all doors, leaving the driver’s door open. I insert and turn the key to the accessory position, or press the “Start/Stop” button without stepping on the brake pedal to power on the vehicle’s electronics.

I press and hold down the button on the rearview mirror that I want to program. It could be any one of the three buttons at the bottom of the mirror.

While holding down the button on the rearview mirror, I simultaneously press and release the button on the remote control for the garage door opener that I want to program. This remote control should be the one provided with the garage door opener system.

I observe the LED light on the garage door opener receiver in the garage. On the receiver, I had previously located the “Learn” or “Program” button. Now, I press this button to initiate the programming sequence. The LED light on the receiver starts flashing or turns on, indicating that it is ready to receive a new code.

Within 30 seconds of initiating the programming sequence, I quickly return to the garage door opener receiver and press the “Learn” or “Program” button once again. The LED light on the receiver stops flashing and remains solid or turns off, confirming that the programming was successful.

To ensure that the garage door opener is working properly, I exit the BMW and test the programmed button on the rearview mirror. I press and hold the button until the garage door starts moving. If the door opens or closes as expected, it means that the programming was successful. If not, I repeat the process from step 2.

Once I have confirmed that the garage door opener is working correctly, I store the remote control in the BMW. I press and hold the programmed button on the rearview mirror while pressing and releasing the corresponding button on the remote control. The LED light on the mirror flashes rapidly, indicating that the remote control has been stored.

If I have multiple BMW vehicles, I repeat the programming steps for each vehicle using the respective remote control and garage door opener receiver.

In summary, according to Garage Door Repair, it’s important to note that these steps are a general guide for programming a BMW garage door opener, and the specific instructions may vary depending on the model and year of your BMW. Always refer to the owner’s manual of your BMW or consult the manufacturer’s documentation for accurate and detailed instructions specific to your vehicle.
